Sonnet on Revolution
Metallic lilac Prince, you rescued me
At age fourteen, Awakening did bring;
Of Secrets, Gender and Humanity,
Of Love and Miracles and Beauty sing.
Your Family a Revolution spin,
At forty-five per minute for DJs;
The red light and the blue note fading in,
The Purple Rain evaporates to haze...
This princess, who is everybody's friend,
Has victory of the people as her aim;
Gold bells and tassels, silver stitches mend
Connection; life will never be the same.
The ceiling's gone, the future isn't set;
Let's floor it in my Little Red Corvette.

Big Up
This is the tenth and final sonnet in this set, it namechecks all the others and itself: Awakening, Miracles, Love, Secrets, Humanity, Beauty, Gender, Family, Connection, Revolution.
The second stanza contains the meanings of my names:
- Sara = princess;
- Nicola = victory of the people;
- Ruth = friend.
⛱ Prince Rogers Nelson. I already knew his double album “1999” at age fourteen, it ruined me for all other men. Side 4 especially, the tracks “Lady Cab Driver” and “International Lover”. He was still fairly unknown and then in 1984 Prince and the Revolution released “Purple Rain” and he became a megastar. Total musician, total showman, totally loves women and supports their self-expression…
That’s my kinda rEVOLution
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple,
There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' 2 run from the destruction,
U know I didn't even care...
Prince Rogers Nelson (born June 7, 1958), known by his mononym Prince, is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and actor. He has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. He has written several hundred songs and produces and records his own music for his own music label. In addition, he has promoted the careers of Sheila E., Carmen Electra, the Time and Vanity 6.
In late 1982, Prince released a double album, 1999, which sold over three million copies. The title track was a protest against nuclear proliferation and became his first top ten hit in countries outside the US. Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” was one of the first two videos by a black artist played in heavy rotation on MTV, along with Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”.
Prince’s 1984 album Purple Rain sold more than 13 million copies in the US and spent 24 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The film of the same name won an Academy Award and grossed more than $80 million in the US. Songs from the film were hits on pop charts around the world, while “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy” reached No. 1 and the title track reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. At one point in 1984, Prince simultaneously had the No. 1 album, single, and film in the US; it was the first time a singer had achieved this feat.
At the time I wrote this sonnet in February 2015 I copied the above text from wiki and I can’t now go back and change everything to past tense. To say I was devastated when Prince died in April 2016 doesn’t begin to cover it. I couldn’t even listen to his music for months afterwards. He died in the elevator in Paisley Park, I like to think it was going up at the time.
Are we gonna let the elevator
Bring us down?
Oh no, let's go
Let's go crazy
