Pennies From Heaven Sonnets
Having already unintentionally written a set of ten sonnets – Fragments Of Hell – I was more deliberate with this collection. I still didn’t have an overarching plan; I just let the ideas bubble up through word association, making connections between seemingly unconnected things.
I’ve use the same metrical structure and rhyme scheme as with the previous sonnets, but you don’t really need to know anything about that if you’d prefer not.
Big Up
“Pennies from Heaven” is a 1936 American popular song with music by Arthur Johnston and lyrics by Johnny Burke. It was introduced by Bing Crosby with Georgie Stoll and his Orchestra in the 1936 film of the same name.
It was recorded in 1936 by Billie Holiday…
Pennies from Heaven (lyrics)
Oh, every time it rains
It rains pennies from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains
Pennies from heaven?
You'll find your fortune fallin'
All over town
Be sure that your umbrella
Is upside down
Trade them for a package of
Sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love
You must have showers
So when you hear it thunder
Don't run under a tree
There'll be pennies from heaven
For you and me
