Sonnet on Fortune (The Wheel of Fortune X)
No luck, no fate, no destiny exists;
The brave, by fortune favoured, know this well.
The wish for ideologies persists
In dogs who always drool at toll of bell.
No gods, no masters, heroes there are none,
Just on your own recognisance are you;
Don't dare depend on some or other don,
Don't get addicted to the shit they do.
The fortunate are those whose ship of fools
Have swords and fingers crossed, in one respect,
But wonky workmen always blame their tools;
Unfortunately they still tools elect.
As fortune's wheels inexorably spin,
The ghost in the machine will greatness win.

The Wheel of Fortune X
The “ghost in the machine” is British philosopher Gilbert Ryle‘s description of René Descartes‘ mind-body dualism.
Picture: The Police named their 1981 album Ghost in the Machine after this concept.
