Sonnet on Fertility (The Empress III)
You want some entertainment? Well, let's see...
Piano? Ukulele? Mandolin?
I've got a drum and shakers, play with me?
And elevate yourself out of the bin.
Or maybe you'd prefer to paint or draw?
Or fashions sew with multicoloured thread?
Huh? Step inside the cage? So what's this for?
For me to clothes and inhibitions shed?!
Fertility appears in female form,
Her myriad of fruitfulness unfurls,
But you're too thick to think outside the norm,
Too threatened by intelligence in girls.
Infertile twat, adjust your paradigm!
And when you've done that, learn to fuckin' rhyme.

The Empress III
Picture: Ella Fitzgerald (1917-96) made her amateur singing debut at age 17 on November 21, 1934, in one of the earliest of the famous Amateur Nights at the Apollo Theater. She had originally intended to go on stage and dance, but, intimidated by a local dance duo called the Edwards Sisters, she opted to sing instead.
In 1993, Fitzgerald capped off her sixty-year career with her last public performance. She is often referred to as the First Lady of Song or Queen of Jazz.
Her accolades included 14 Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts, the NAACP’s inaugural President’s Award, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
