Sonnet on Gangsta

I hear you chatting pimped-up gangsta crap,
You think it's all about the golden tat,
But all you know is movies, telly, rap,                                              
You porn-fed, soulless, pampered yuppie brat.
What's that in your fat hand, a smoking gun? 
Real gangsters I have known would go to town,
Would beat your mate to death for what he's done,
And burn your donkey sanc-tu-ary down. 

Your secret threesomes, bribing girls with drugs
To cover up that you've been sucking dick...
Yes, that makes you a pimp, your mates all mugs,
Makes me spit rhymes you'll swallow till you're sick. 
Real gangstering you deffo won't enjoy;
Be careful what you wish for, Gangsta Boi.

Please note I am using the term “Boi” here as an affirmation of gay/bi/genderqueer identities, and to diss the inauthentic and homophobic. 

Boi: the numbered list below is from Urban Dictionary when I wrote the poem a decade ago.

  1. in the lesbian community, a young transgendered /androgynous /masculine person who is biologically female and presents themselves in a young, boyish way; a boidyke; often also identifies as genderqueer. 
  2. in the gay community, a young gay man; 
  3. in the BDSM community, someone who presents themselves in a young, boyish way and is usually a bottom/submissive; 
  4. an alternate spelling of boy often used by young teenage boys.

Here’s an updated definition from the same Urban Dictionary link in 2024.

Some bois are trans or intersex people. Some “bois” identify as one or more of these, but they almost always identify as lesbians, dykes, or queer. Many trans bois are also genderqueer/nonbinary (in itself a trans/transgender group), or might identify as cis persons or trans men, and yet practice genderfuck in which they do not fit in either masculine or feminine binary gender presentation.
