Sonnet on Cowardice

When coasting on your rank complacency,
You're suddenly required to take a stand.
You're eaten up by fear, turn cowardly,
And clutch your flaccid soul in your right hand.
Sure, hide behind five dozen of your "friends",
Insert your head up your backside, or theirs.
Your chickenshit philosophy portends
A fear so great, yet he who wins so dares.

I stand alone, no cowardice have I;
Onstage or off, I speak as I deem fit.
Have you a pair? Have you an alibi?
Stale pussyclart, make sure you're bringing it.
Of all the things you fear, which thing is worse:
To take a stand, or get shot down in verse?

“Who Dares, Wins” is a motto that originated with the British Special Air Service. It is normally credited to the founder of the SAS, David Stirling. Among the SAS themselves it is sometimes humorously corrupted to “Who cares [who] wins?”

The catchphrase “He Who Dares Wins” was commonly used by Del Boy in British sitcom Only Fools and Horses
