Sonnet on Receiving

The messages and soundscapes tax you dear,
Cascading through your synapses unchecked,
Repetitive and mesmerising, hear
With utmost clarity your will is wrecked.
Relentless, just like Tetris falling blocks,
You race to fit them in, completion feel,
But momentary, forward leaping clocks
Anticipate achievement isn't real.

And forward looking folk see time reverse,
The ringleader's cassette tape now rewinds,
The circus clowns the future now rehearse,
And bad dreams disappear from troubled minds.
Success is guaranteed, sound the alarm
For what you need.... a still, small voice of calm.
